An elevated but casual airport outfit
Who said sweatpants had to be the designated airport uniform?
As I’ve gotten older I’ve swapped my pants for something a little more elevated and put together - linen pants! They’re just as comfortable, but look way more stylish.
My favorite pair are this wide leg pair from COS. I also styled it with a t-shirt from COS and a denim shirt. For shoes, I’m wearing my Onitsuka Tiger Mexico 66 sneakers.
I completed my travel fit with my suede bag from And Other Stories and my Calpak carry-on bag.

Okay, let's be real – the sweatpant uniform for airports has had its moment, but lately, I've been all about finding that sweet spot between ultimate comfort and looking effortlessly chic. Like many of you, I used to reach for my comfiest sweats, but after a few trips feeling a bit... underdressed and not quite myself, I decided it's time for an upgrade. My discovery? The magic of linen pants! They truly are an airport outfit that's *not sweatpants*, offering incredible breathability, a relaxed yet refined silhouette, and a polished look that traditional sweatpants just can't match. It’s about feeling put-together from touchdown to takeoff. When you're thinking about creating an elevated airport look, especially for us women who want to feel stylish even at 30,000 feet, it's all about strategic choices. For summer airport outfits, linen is a game-changer. It keeps you wonderfully cool in warmer climates, preventing that dreaded sticky feeling, but also offers a light, comfortable layer on chilly planes. Beyond classic linen, consider a good pair of wide-leg trousers in a soft, wrinkle-resistant fabric like Tencel or a high-quality cotton blend. Even a well-fitting, stylish jogger (but make it fashion – think tailored fits, neutral colors, and luxurious textures, not baggy lounge wear) can work wonders for a sporty yet chic vibe. The key is to select pieces that drape well and allow for movement without looking sloppy. Footwear is another absolutely crucial element when planning what to wear to the airport. While Onitsuka Tiger Mexico 66 sneakers are a personal favorite for their unbeatable comfort and retro-chic style, don't limit yourself! The world of comfortable yet trendy airport outfits for women is vast. Slip-on sneakers, sleek loafers, stylish leather mules, or even a sophisticated pair of ballet flats (yes, even Onitsuka Tiger makes them, offering another great option!) can elevate your travel ensemble. The paramount consideration here is comfort for long walks through terminals, support for standing in lines, and easy removal for security checks. No one wants to be fumbling with laces when you're rushing to catch a flight. And what about those layers? An airport's temperature can fluctuate wildly from sweltering security lines to freezing, air-conditioned cabins. That's why a versatile denim shirt, like the one I wore, or a soft, lightweight cardigan made of merino wool or cashmere, is absolutely essential. It adds warmth without bulk and can easily be tied around your waist if you get too warm, adding a stylish touch. A classic, high-quality t-shirt or a simple ribbed tank underneath keeps the base simple, comfortable, and easy to mix and match. Think about pieces that can transition from the plane to your destination seamlessly. Finally, accessories aren't just for show – they're practical necessities that complete your airport look. A chic tote bag or a structured shoulder bag (like my suede one) can hold all your in-flight essentials – a book, headphones, snacks, and your passport – keeping them easily accessible. And a reliable, lightweight carry-on with smooth-rolling wheels makes navigating bustling airports a literal breeze. Remember, the ultimate goal is to feel good, look good, and be prepared for anything your journey throws at you, all while maintaining that elevated, chic aesthetic. So, next time you're packing for a trip, challenge yourself to create an airport look that's both polished and supremely comfortable – you'll not only thank yourself later, but you might just inspire a few fellow travelers too!
