Taco Pizza 🤗
Making homemade taco pizza has become one of my absolute favorite weeknight meals! It's such a fun twist on two classics, and honestly, it’s surprisingly easy to put together. When I first thought about making taco pizza at home, I was a bit intimidated, but trust me, it’s totally worth it. The best part? You can customize it exactly how you like! So, what do you need for this deliciousness? Here’s what I usually grab: For the Crust: I often use a pre-made pizza crust or even crescent roll dough for a quick fix. If I'm feeling ambitious, a homemade dough is amazing too! The Meat: About a pound of ground beef or turkey. Season it with your favorite taco seasoning mix – I usually go for a low-sodium one. The Sauce: This is where it gets fun! Instead of traditional pizza sauce, I spread a layer of refried beans and then some salsa or even a mild taco sauce. Cheese, Please! Shredded cheddar cheese, a Mexican blend, or even Monterey Jack works perfectly. Toppings Galore: This is where your creativity shines! My must-haves are shredded lettuce, diced tomatoes, sliced black olives, and a dollop of sour cream or Greek yogurt. Sometimes I add sliced jalapeños for a kick, or crushed tortilla chips for extra crunch. Don't forget some fresh cilantro if you have it! Alright, let's get cooking! Here’s my simple step-by-step guide: Prep the Crust: Preheat your oven according to your pizza crust package directions (usually around 400°F/200°C). Roll out your dough on a baking sheet. I like to pre-bake it for about 5-7 minutes to get a slightly crispy base. Cook the Meat: While the crust is pre-baking, brown your ground meat in a skillet. Drain any excess grease, then stir in your taco seasoning and a little water (per seasoning packet instructions). Let it simmer for a few minutes until the sauce thickens. Assemble the Pizza: Once your crust is slightly pre-baked, spread a thin layer of refried beans evenly over it. Then, spoon your seasoned taco meat over the beans. Drizzle with a bit of salsa or taco sauce, and finally, generously sprinkle with your shredded cheese. Bake It Up: Pop the pizza back into the oven and bake for another 10-15 minutes, or until the cheese is melted, bubbly, and the crust is golden brown. Keep an eye on it so it doesn't burn! Add Fresh Toppings: This is crucial! As soon as it comes out of the oven, let it cool for just a minute or two. Then, pile on all your fresh, cool toppings like shredded lettuce, diced tomatoes, black olives, and a dollop of sour cream. If you're using crushed tortilla chips, sprinkle those on top as well. A few extra tips from my kitchen: Spice it up: Add a pinch of cayenne pepper to your meat, or use a spicy salsa. Veggie Power: You can easily make this vegetarian by using plant-based ground meat or just loading up on beans and veggies. Kid-Friendly: Let the kids help with spreading the toppings – they love customizing their own slices! Leftovers? Taco pizza is surprisingly good cold the next day, or you can gently reheat it in the oven. Seriously, if you haven't tried making taco pizza at home yet, this is your sign! It’s a guaranteed crowd-pleaser and so much fun to make. Give it a go and let me know your favorite toppings in the comments!
