Coasters
Just need to coat with polyurethane.
When creating wood coasters, applying a polyurethane finish is a crucial step to ensure their longevity and appearance. Polyurethane acts as a protective barrier that guards against moisture, heat, and everyday wear and tear, making your coasters both functional and beautiful. From my experience, lightly sanding the coaster surface before applying polyurethane helps the finish adhere better, resulting in a smoother texture. Use a high-quality brush or foam applicator to apply thin, even coats, allowing each layer to dry completely before adding the next. Typically, two to three coats provide ample protection. Be sure to apply polyurethane in a well-ventilated area to avoid inhaling fumes. An interesting note: the image related to this process shows the number '8,' which can remind you there are usually around eight hours needed for each coat to dry fully, depending on the product and environmental conditions. For added safety, choose a water-based polyurethane if you want minimal odor and faster drying times, though oil-based finishes generally offer a richer hue and more durable coating. After the final coat dries, buff and polish your coasters gently for a satin sheen. Applying polyurethane is a straightforward but essential step that significantly increases the lifespan of handmade wood coasters, allowing you to enjoy their natural beauty while protecting your furniture.
