Crochet Chicken Coasters 🐓
I had so much fun making these. I busted all four of these out in about 4 hours. I made these for my aunt this Christmas! Credit to this lovely free pattern that I found online. I did have to improvise on the comb the top red of the chickens head I could get the pattern to look right so I just did my own thing.
Save this pattern for later and let me know if you’ll be making these! I highly recommend pretty beginner friendly. Now I want to make a bunch of coasters for everyone 🤭
Making crochet chicken coasters is such a satisfying project, especially for those who enjoy combining creativity with practicality. When I first started, I found the pattern wonderfully straightforward but faced a little challenge with the chicken's comb—so improvising that part added a unique personal touch to my coasters. Using worsted yarn and a 3.75mm hook worked perfectly to achieve a sturdy yet delicate fabric. One tip I'd share is to pay close attention to the small parts like the wattle, comb, and beak; weaving stitches under the wrong side of the double crochet shells can be tricky. I recommend practicing these stitches on scrap yarn before working on the final piece. The finished coasters are approximately 4.5 inches across, making them perfect for protecting your surfaces in style. In terms of colors, switching up the yarn hues for the comb and beak really helps bring each chicken to life. Don’t hesitate to experiment with shades of red and yellow to mimic real chicken features or opt for fun, bold colors for a more playful look. Also, consider making a simple hanger loop so the coasters can double as charming decorations when not in use. This project not only makes a thoughtful handmade gift for family but also a delightful conversation starter for your own home gatherings. Overall, these crochet chicken coasters are a delightful way to practice crochet skills while creating something both functional and fun. Whether gifting or personalizing your space, they bring a lovely handcrafted charm wherever they’re placed.
