Hole-in-the-wall Japanese Curry Eatery in Osaka

It's one of the best food finds we uncovered during our recent trip to Japan. It's relatively affordable and they nailed with the spices curry and meat cutlet. I don't think anyone could make curry that tastes like theirs.

Their Shrimp Miso Curry Ramen is equally good but the curry rice is still their specialty and most diners seem to order the pork cutlet rice.

Besides the signature pork cutlet curry rice, their menu offers a variety of curry options, including cheese curry and stewed chicken curry, catering to different tastes. Their shrimp miso curry ramen combines rich shrimp broth with the restaurant’s distinctive curry spices that create a comforting, unique flavor profile. What I appreciated the most was how they balance spice and savoriness — the curry isn’t overwhelmingly hot but has a depth of flavor that keeps you wanting more. Prices are reasonable, typically around ¥880 for the pork cutlet curry and ¥1100 for the shrimp miso ramen, making it accessible for travelers on a budget. Oretachino-Curry Ya also shows consideration for diverse dietary needs; they provide information for Muslim customers, which is a thoughtful touch. The atmosphere is intimate, true to a hole-in-the-wall eatery, adding to the authentic experience. When visiting, be sure to try the pork cutlet rice—the crowd favorite—and enjoy the cozy ambiance of this hidden gem in Chuo Ward. It’s an excellent choice for anyone seeking genuine Osaka-style Japanese curry and ramen beyond the typical tourist spots.

You will see many of these red signs “551 Horai” with long queues in Osaka. Can’t miss and don’t miss at all! We tried their gyozas (nicely pan fried to a crispy golden exterior with juicy fillings inside). The steamed pork buns are huge! I got them at 2 for 450yen. #osakafood #foodreview
