ðĪ Labor Crisis or Future? GM Sliced 1,000 Positions. Send 50 Robots Wading through the Production Line Instead!
This is very interesting. The automotive industry is undergoing a major transition. General Motors (GM) is now moving on to a serious restructuring, more than 1,000 staff cuts, and some 50 industrial robots have been replaced.
This isn't just a matter for GM, a single company, it reflects a snapshot of the global auto industry that is injecting huge sums of money into automation, AI and advanced robotics. ðâĄ
These modern factory robots are much better. They can range from welding, spray painting, material handling, parts assembly to quality monitoring. They are also extremely accurate and consistent. Using robots increases productivity, reduces waste, and, importantly, improves human safety by taking over tasks that need to be done repeatedly or at risk of harm.
But coins always have two sides. Although automation creates a lot of demand for new techniques - robotics, software, or maintenance engineers - it is inevitable that there will be questions about the transition of labor, the training of new skills, and the future of human-machine collaboration. Where will the balance of advanced manufacturing?
