🚛 China is testing another route of modern trucks - not batteries and not Fuel Cells, but engines that directly "burn hydrogen."

Weichai Power revealed the 14.6-liter WP15 engine produces up to 600 horsepower, up to 2,800 Nm of torque and a maximum thermal efficiency of 46.8%.

On July 3, 2026, this version of the engine passed the China VI Exhaust Standard test for heavy duty vehicles, covering from starting while cold, idling, to running at full power.

⚙️ The hallmark is that the direct injection of hydrogen into the combustion chamber reduces ignition and reversal fire problems. With more than 90% parts in combination with traditional engines, it may make it easier for factories and repair centers to adapt than to replace the entire system.

Weichai puts the target into use with long-distance trucks, mine cars, dock equipment and large generators, a task for which the Battery system also faces weight, working distance and charging time constraints.

🌱 However, the term "carbon-free" applies only to combustion at the point of use, because the impact throughout the circuit also depends on how hydrogen is produced, and combustion can also generate NOx, so there must be an exhaust control system.

This is therefore not yet the immediate end of diesel, but another gripping alternative to the industry, which is difficult to switch to electricity. 🔥
