U.S. Green Light Package APKWS II Reinforced Saudi Defense Armor
ðšðļðļðĶ, the U.S. approved the possibility of selling arms and related equipment to Saudi Arabia at an estimated value of $1.96 billion, with the key being up to 20,000 Advanced Precision Kill Weapon System II or APKWS II guided kits.
The package is divided into guided kits for no more than 10,000 air-to-air missions and no more than 10,000 air-to-ground kits with launchers, warheads, rocket motors, slate, test equipment, spare parts, and ð training.
APKWS II uses laser-guided technology, converting conventional 2.75-inch rockets to more accurate target attack. It can be used against ground targets and certain types of aerial threats, such as drones, thus potentially enhancing a more cost-effective alternative to high-altitude interceptor missiles in all situations.
However, the accuracy of the weapon does not mean that there is no damage to the surrounding area, because the outcome also depends on identifying the target, how it is used, and the environment of the mission.
â ïļ This deal is not yet a completed contract, but rather a possible sale approval under Foreign Military Sales Systems, with the actual amount and value subject to change during negotiations, and is still subject to the Congress review process. The U.S. identifies BAE Systems as the prime contractor if the deal moves forward.
