When Will The People Say Enough?

Every major shift in human history had a catalyst — a moment where the collective tolerance of a people reached its limit and something moved. We study those moments in history books and wonder what it felt like to live through them. The uncomfortable truth is we are living through one right now and most people are still waiting for someone else to say enough first.

The mechanism keeping people silent isn’t apathy. It’s engineered overwhelm. When everything is a crisis simultaneously, the nervous system defaults to paralysis. When the news cycle moves faster than comprehension, people stop trying to comprehend and start just consuming. That consumption is mistaken for engagement but it’s actually the opposite — it’s managed passivity dressed up as being informed.

We have been conditioned to express our enough through likes, shares and comments. Digital protest that costs nothing and changes nothing. The algorithm rewards the reaction and the system stays intact. Meanwhile the actual conditions that should be triggering collective action keep compounding.

This week we’re going deeper. Not into despair — into activation. Because the question isn’t whether things are bad enough. They are. The question is what’s standing between knowing that and actually moving. This series is for the people who feel it but haven’t yet found the language for it. By the end of this week we’re going to name the thing clearly.

The people have always had the power. That’s not a motivational statement. That’s a historical fact. Every system that has ever fallen fell because enough people decided it would. So the real question isn’t whether change is possible. It’s what we’re waiting for.

When will you say enough?

... Read moreLiving through times of constant crises can feel like being trapped in an endless storm of information and despair. From my own experience, I noticed how overwhelming daily news and social media updates about global issues often led me to feel powerless rather than inspired to act. It’s not that people are indifferent, but continuous exposure to multiple, simultaneous crises can numb our emotional responses and cause decision paralysis. One key realization is that digital engagement—likes, shares, comments—while feeling participatory, doesn’t necessarily translate into meaningful change. Algorithms reward reactions that keep us scrolling and consuming content, but this often replaces genuine activism with what some call "clicktivism." To truly say "enough" and spark change, it takes more than online gestures; it requires conscious, collective action offline. Historical movements teach us that societal change happens when a critical mass reaches their limit of tolerance and decides to act together. This moment is usually preceded by a shared understanding of injustice and frustration with the status quo. Today, we face the challenge of breaking through engineered overwhelm to find solidarity and purpose. Personally, I found that focusing on local communities and causes helped turn feelings of helplessness into tangible impact. Volunteering, attending town halls, and engaging in meaningful conversations with neighbors created a sense of empowerment. It’s about reclaiming agency from the noise and transforming passive observation into active participation. If you feel moved by the overwhelming state of the world but unsure where to start, recognize that the power to change has always resided with "the people." The question "When will you say enough?" is an invitation to move past digital consumption and activate real-world change. By building connections, educating ourselves, and taking small but consistent steps, we can collectively shift the narrative and reshape the systems that no longer serve us. In essence, overcoming overwhelm requires conscious unplugging from the constant crisis cycle and recommitting to purposeful, community-driven actions that reflect our shared values and vision for the future.
