Our bathrooms are warm, humid environments – perfect breeding grounds for unwelcome guests in our skincare concoctions! So, if you’re still craving that invigorating feel of a homemade scrub, how can you enjoy it without the risks? My personal strategy now revolves around making tiny, single-use portions right before I step into the shower. Instead of solely relying on 'sugar' which can sometimes be too abrasive, I often mix a very small amount of fine-grain sugar with my regular, pH-balanced 'body wash' or a dollop of pure 'honey' for its natural humectant properties. Sometimes, I'll add a tiny drop of 'olive oil' or 'coconut oil' to boost moisture, especially for drier skin areas. The absolute golden rule here is to mix it fresh, use it immediately, and then discard any leftovers. This way, you get the exfoliating benefits and lovely scent without giving those harmful 'microbes' a chance to multiply.
