... Read moreManaging oily hair can often feel like a never-ending battle, but I’ve found that incorporating a few thoughtful steps into my hair care routine can make a significant difference. One of the most game-changing tips I learned involves using glycolic acid as a pre-shampoo treatment. Applying it directly onto the roots and massaging it in before washing helps to exfoliate the scalp and loosen excess oil and buildup. It’s important to let it sit for about five minutes before rinsing to maximize its effectiveness. I also discovered that micellar water is a fantastic, gentle way to refresh oily roots between washes. By applying micellar water with a cotton pad specifically to the greasy areas and using a blow dryer to speed up drying, I could extend the time between full shampoo sessions without my hair feeling heavy or weighed down. Another key habit for me has been to always clean my hairbrush regularly. It’s easy to overlook, but if you don’t wash your brush, all the oil and dirt just get redistributed back into your hair, which only makes greasiness worse. Scalp exfoliation is something I started experimenting with, especially products containing salicylic acid and niacinamide, which not only control oil production but also help soothe any irritation. Using dry shampoo at night on clean, dry hair is a trick that really surprised me with its results. It absorbs excess oils overnight, so I wake up with much fresher roots. Opting for brands with a light scent and invisible finish means I can use it without worrying about residue buildup. Finally, I found that blow-drying my hair rather than air-drying it helped redistribute oil away from the roots, leaving my hair looking less greasy for longer. And to maintain scalp health, using a clarifying shampoo weekly to remove sebum, product buildup, and dirt is indispensable. These little routines create a well-rounded approach to managing oily hair without over-stripping or damaging delicate strands.
