When Creditors Report Wrong Data, This Law Applies
Creditors that report information to credit bureaus have legal responsibilities under FCRA §623 (15 U.S.C. §1681s-2).
This law requires creditors to report accurate information, investigate disputes forwarded by credit bureaus, and correct or update any incomplete or inaccurate data.
If a creditor continues reporting incorrect information or fails to investigate a dispute properly, they may be violating federal law.
Understanding this section of the Fair Credit Reporting Act is important because it places accountability on the companies furnishing information to credit bureaus.
Accurate reporting helps protect consumers and maintain the integrity of the credit reporting system.
