Chlorophytum comosum,or as some people know it, the spider plant, is a plant that is popular among beginners because it's easy to grow. It also has air-purifying abilities, so it can perfectly adapt to your house conditions and interior style as well.
Chlorophytum comosum (Spider ivy, Ribbon plant) is an evergreen perennial plant. This species is native mainly to Africa, but you can also find it growing wildly in Western Australia and other tropical places. It has tuberous roots, beautiful narrow leaves, and white flowers that are produced in ramose inflorescence. The inflorescence carries plantlets from which the adventitious roots develop further.
Watering: Water your spider plant moderately. When the top half of the soil is dry, you may want to give the plant a drink. Empty the saucer after watering, so the roots don’t sit in the mud.
Repotting: Don't be afraid to repot your plant if its roots are hanging from the drainage holes and the old pot seems to be too tight. Follow these tips:
Your new pot has to be just 1-2 inches (2.5-5 cm) bigger than the previous one. If you repot your plant in a much bigger container, it will slow down its growth.
Always use planters with drainage holes in the bottom - these are crucial to avoid overwatering and root rot.
When repotting, try to remove as much old soil as possible, but be careful not to damage the roots, they are incredibly tender.
After repotting, your plant might appear droopy and sad. Don't worry, it is experiencing transplant shock. Stick to your care routine, and your green friend will feel better than ever :)
