hanging out with the cousin
Spending time with cousins is one of the best parts of growing up, and honestly, it never stops being fun! Whether you see them often or it's a special reunion, finding new and exciting things to do can make those moments even more memorable. I've put together some of my go-to ideas for both super chill days at home and adventurous outings. Fun Things to Do with Cousins at Home Sometimes, the best memories are made right in your living room or backyard. Here are a few things my cousins and I love doing when we're hanging out at home: Movie Marathon & Snack Bar: This is a classic for a reason! Pick a theme (like superhero movies, rom-coms, or a specific actor) and set up a cozy viewing area with blankets and pillows. The best part? Creating a DIY snack bar with popcorn, candies, and different drinks. It feels like a mini cinema experience! Board Game or Video Game Tournament: Dust off those old board games like Monopoly, Catan, or even a deck of cards for some friendly competition. If you're more into tech, fire up your favorite multiplayer video games. Keeping score and having a small prize (like bragging rights!) makes it extra fun. Bake-Off Challenge: Get creative in the kitchen! Choose a recipe (cookies, cupcakes, or even a simple pizza from scratch) and either work together or have a friendly competition. Decorating is always a highlight, and you get to enjoy your delicious creations afterward. DIY Craft Session: Pinterest is your best friend here! Find a simple craft project like making friendship bracelets, painting small canvases, tie-dyeing t-shirts, or even making homemade slime. It's a great way to chat and create something unique together. Backyard Camping or Bonfire: If you have a backyard, set up a tent, roast marshmallows over a fire pit (safely, of course!), share stories, and gaze at the stars. Even if you don't sleep outside, the bonfire experience is always a hit. Exciting Places to Go & Stuff to Do with Your Cousins When you're ready to venture out, there are tons of options to explore and make some unforgettable memories. Here are some of our favorite places and activities: Explore a Local Park or Nature Trail: Pack a picnic and head to a beautiful park. You can walk, bike, play frisbee, or just relax and chat. If there's a nature trail nearby, it's a great opportunity for some fresh air and exploring. Visit a Museum or Art Gallery: This might sound boring to some, but choosing a quirky museum (like a science center or a local history museum with interactive exhibits) or an interesting art gallery can be surprisingly cool. You learn something new and have plenty to talk about. Go Bowling or Mini Golfing: These activities are always a blast! They're competitive, lighthearted, and perfect for all ages. Plus, the laughs are guaranteed, especially when someone bowls a gutter ball or misses an easy putt. Try a New Cafe or Ice Cream Shop: If you're foodies like my cousins and I, make it your mission to find a new, highly-rated cafe for coffee and pastries, or an ice cream parlor with unique flavors. It's a simple pleasure that feels like a mini-adventure. Attend a Local Event: Check out what's happening in your town or a nearby city. Farmers' markets, street festivals, concerts in the park, or even a high school sporting event can be fun and offer a glimpse into local culture. Volunteer Together: If you're looking for something more meaningful, consider volunteering at a local animal shelter, food bank, or community garden. It's a wonderful way to give back and bond over a shared good cause. No matter what you choose to do, the most important thing is spending quality time together and strengthening those special cousin bonds. Enjoy making new memories!
