... Read moreWow, it still feels surreal to look at those before & after photos! Losing 72 pounds has been the most challenging yet rewarding journey of my life. When I started back on 09/20/22, I honestly doubted I'd ever reach this point. I was stuck, feeling frustrated with my body, especially managing my PCOS, which made weight loss feel like an uphill battle. But seeing myself now, on 11/11/24, fitting comfortably into a purple hoodie and light blue jeans after struggling in a maroon top and dark shorts, is all the proof I need that consistency pays off. So many of you have asked how I did it, and honestly, it wasn't one magic trick. It was a combination of sustainable lifestyle changes. The biggest shift for me was understanding my body, especially with PCOS. I focused heavily on a balanced diet, prioritizing whole, unprocessed foods. This meant lots of lean protein, healthy fats, and complex carbohydrates. Portion control became my best friend, not restriction. I learned to listen to my body's hunger cues rather than emotional eating. Exercise also played a massive role. I started slow, with walks, and gradually built up to more intense workouts, including strength training and some cardio. What I found crucial was what I ate after my workouts. For anyone wondering about a weight loss post workout meal, it's vital for recovery and muscle repair, which in turn boosts your metabolism. My go-to options included a protein shake with a banana, Greek yogurt with berries and a sprinkle of nuts, or a small chicken salad. The key is to get a good mix of protein and carbs within an hour or two of finishing your exercise to help your muscles recover and prepare for the next session, avoiding excessive hunger later. Beyond diet and exercise, mental fortitude was key. There were days I felt like giving up, weeks where the scale wouldn't budge. But remembering my 'why' – for my health, for my energy, for feeling good in my own skin – kept me going. I celebrated small victories, not just the big pounds lost. This journey of how to lose 72 pounds wasn't linear; it had its ups and downs, but each setback was a learning opportunity. Now, as I'm so close to my maintenance weight, the focus shifts slightly. It's about sustaining these healthy habits, enjoying food without guilt, and continuing to move my body in ways that feel good. If you're on a similar path, especially with challenges like PCOS, remember that your journey is unique. Find what works for *you*, be patient, and be kind to yourself. You are capable of incredible transformations!
