Otho the Axolotl celebrates SPRING! 🌸

It's finally spring, and my sweet axolotl, Otho, is definitely feeling the 'SPRING MOOD'! You saw his tank decorated with those fun flowers and butterflies in the photo – it really brightens up his little world. As a proud owner of this dark grey axolotl, I always love finding ways to make his aquarium feel fresh and exciting, especially with the changing seasons. If you're curious about axolotls like Otho, let me tell you, they are truly one-of-a-kind pets! People often ask me about them, and the most common questions revolve around their care. These unique amphibians, native to Mexico, thrive in cool, clean water. Maintaining stable water parameters (temperature, pH, ammonia, nitrites, nitrates) is absolutely crucial for their well-being. I aim for temperatures consistently between 60-68°F (16-20°C) – overheating is a big no-no for these guys! They also need excellent filtration, but without strong currents, as they prefer calm water. I use a sponge filter and a baffled hang-on-back filter to keep Otho's water pristine, ensuring he has a comfortable home among his green plants. One question I hear a lot is, 'How big do axolotls get?' It's a great question because their size can be quite surprising! Most pet axolotls, like my dark grey Otho, typically grow to be around 6 to 10 inches long from snout to tail tip. However, some can even reach an impressive 12-14 inches in rare cases. Their growth depends on several key factors: their diet, genetics, and the overall quality of their water environment. A healthy, well-fed axolotl in a spacious, clean tank will generally reach its full potential size.
