I wanted to dive deeper into something incredibly personal, something that the OCR snippet from my post just scratches the surface of: "How I used to talk abt being gay before I realized." It’s a phrase that brings back a lot of memories, a lot of different feelings. I remember a time, not so long ago, when discussions about being gay felt... different for me. When topics of LGBTQ+ identity came up, my responses, my reactions, even the language I used, were often shaped by what I thought I knew, or what society subtly (or not so subtly) taught me. I might have engaged in conversations from a place of external observation, rather than internal understanding. There was a distance, a detachment, because I hadn't yet connected those discussions to my own unfolding identity. Looking back now, I realize how much of what I said or thought was a reflection of the narratives around me, not necessarily my own truth. I might have used generalizations, or perhaps even unknowingly perpetuated certain stereotypes, simply because I hadn't done the deep, introspective work yet. There was a certain innocence, yes, but also a lack of self-awareness that colored my perspective. I wasn't being malicious; I was simply un-realized. My internal landscape hadn't yet caught up with the truth that was always within me, waiting to be discovered. It's a strange feeling to reflect on those past versions of myself, knowing what I know now. The journey to genuinely understanding and accepting my own identity wasn't a sudden lightbulb moment; it was a gradual unfolding, a series of small revelations. It involved a lot of quiet reflection, listening to others' stories, and allowing myself to question everything I thought I knew. Each step, no matter how small, brought me closer to recognizing the patterns in my own feelings and experiences. It was like piecing together a puzzle, where suddenly, all the disparate parts started to make sense, revealing a picture that felt profoundly right and authentic to me. Once I began to truly realize and accept who I was, the way I spoke about being gay, and indeed, about myself, transformed completely. The distance vanished. My words became infused with personal meaning, empathy, and a depth that wasn't there before. Conversations that once felt abstract became deeply personal and impactful. I found myself advocating not just for a community, but for a part of myself. It's an ongoing process of learning and growing, but the foundation of self-acceptance has made all the difference. This shift has not only changed how I communicate, but fundamentally how I live and engage with the world, including my presence online as dillonbrooksx. Sharing this journey, even the parts I used to talk about before realizing, feels incredibly freeing and important.
