... Read moreDuring my Ipoh trip, I really enjoyed exploring the distinct menus at places like Hong Kee Confectionery Trading and Jun Japanese Cuisine. At Hong Kee, the signature egg tarts are a must-try — crisp and buttery, perfect for takeaway gifts. They also offer other local pastries with great flavors that made lovely souvenirs.
Jun Japanese Cuisine impressed me with their fresh sashimi and thoughtful anniversary perks like free umbrellas. The service was notably attentive, and the presentation made the meal feel special. It’s a solid choice if you appreciate authentic Japanese food with warm hospitality.
On the other hand, Hasshu Izakaya was a bit disappointing because the sashimi didn’t feel very fresh during my visit, so I’d recommend trying other eateries for Japanese cuisine in Ipoh.
Overall, the diverse dining scene in Ipoh offers something for many tastes, and combining these delicious food stops with comfortable accommodation like 1969 D’Kelly Hotel (which features a charming vintage-modern vibe and even live piano music!) really enriched my short getaway. If you’re planning to explore Ipoh, definitely carve out time for these culinary highlights and bring home some sweet treats from Guan Heong Biscuit Shop or Hong Kee.
