Packing a facial soap bar!!
Traveling with bar soap has become my go-to, not just for sustainability, but also for simplifying my packing! If you're like me, tired of leaky bottles and TSA liquid limits, switching to bar soap for your face and body is a game-changer. But the big question always is: how do you travel with it without making a mess? My first and most crucial tip is to always, always make sure your bar soap is completely dry before packing. I usually let mine air dry on a soap dish for at least 24 hours after its last use at home. This prevents it from getting mushy and sticky inside your travel container, which is the main culprit for any mess. If I'm really in a rush, I sometimes gently pat it dry with a paper towel. Now, for the actual packing! I've tried several methods, and here are my favorites: Vented Soap Cases: These are a lifesaver! They often have small holes that allow any residual moisture to evaporate, preventing your soap from turning into a slimy puddle. I've found some great options made from recycled plastics or bamboo. Just pop your dry soap in, and you're good to go. I've even seen lovely, eco-friendly travel containers and soap dishes on platforms like Etsy, with brands such as BARE BEAUTY NATURALS offering some fantastic solutions that look chic and keep things clean. Soap Saver Bags: These mesh or sisal bags are fantastic. Not only do they help create a lather, but they also allow air circulation to dry your soap. You can put the soap bar in the bag, and then place the bag in a small, breathable pouch or even just inside a dedicated section of your toiletry bag. They're especially great for small, leftover soap slivers. The Washcloth Wrap: This is a simple, effective DIY solution. After your soap is dry, wrap it snugly in a clean, dry washcloth. The washcloth absorbs any minor moisture and also doubles as a face or body cloth for your trip. I then place this wrapped package inside a small, sealable bag (like a Ziploc) for extra security. Small Tin Containers: An old mint tin or a small, round metal tin works perfectly for smaller facial soap bars. Just ensure the soap is very dry before placing it inside. While not vented, these are great for short trips or if you know you'll be able to take the soap out to air dry at your destination. When you arrive at your destination, try to take your bar soap out of its container or wrap and let it air dry again. This will make it last longer and stay fresher for your entire trip. By following these simple steps, traveling with bar soap becomes completely stress-free, and you can enjoy your eco-friendly routine wherever your adventures take you!
