BACKSTROKE SWIMMING

... Read moreBackstroke swimming is a wonderful way to improve your overall fitness while being gentle on your joints. One of the great aspects of backstroke is that it allows you to breathe easily throughout the swim since your face is out of the water, making it particularly accessible for swimmers of all levels and body types. From my personal experience, consistent practice of backstroke has not only improved my shoulder strength and flexibility but has also helped reduce lower back pain. For plus-size fitness enthusiasts, backstroke provides an excellent cardiovascular workout that promotes calorie burn and muscle toning without high impact. To refine your backstroke technique, focus on keeping your body as flat as possible on the water’s surface, maintaining a steady kick from your hips, and rotating your shoulders to gain maximum reach with each stroke. Another tip is to keep your head still, looking straight up, which helps with balance and reduces drag. Incorporating backstroke into your swim routine diversifies your workouts, targeting different muscle groups than freestyle or breaststroke. Many swimmers find it relaxing yet challenging, enhancing endurance and swimming efficiency over time. Whether you’re training for competition or swimming for fitness, trying different drills such as single-arm strokes or incorporating backstroke intervals can accelerate your progress. Plus, joining communities or forums dedicated to swimming can provide motivation and technique advice, helping you stay engaged and improve your skills.

I can’t swim took lessons as an adult but could not seem to coordinate the strokes. That was fifty yrs ago. I continue to go to the beach and pool. Just like getting in the water with other people 😀
