I was always striving for the next big thing, pushing myself relentlessly, and often ending up exhausted and unfulfilled. I realized traditional goals, driven by external expectations or what society told me I 'should' achieve, often led to a cycle of pressure, hustle, and comparison. It felt like I was living on someone else's ego timelines, constantly battling feelings of perfectionism that left me drained, not inspired.
That's when I shifted my perspective, learning that true alignment comes from within. Spiritual goals aren't about forcing an outcome; they're about co-creating with the universe from a place of genuine desire and joy. This journey led me to embrace 'purpose' as the soul component of my aspirations. Instead of asking 'What should I do?', I now ask myself, 'What truly expands me?' and 'What brings me closer to my future self?' This inquiry taps into my higher self, guiding me towards a path that feels authentic and deeply meaningful.
But purpose alone isn't enough; pleasure is the embodiment component that keeps your nervous system open to receiving. My goals used to feel like a heavy burden, but now I strive for them to evoke ease, not tension, and excitement, not dread. When a goal feels good in my body, when I anticipate the process with joy rather than anxiety, that's when I know I'm truly aligned. It’s about finding the enjoyment in the journey itself, making the path to your dreams as fulfilling as the destination.
So, how do I set these soul-led goals? It’s a five-step process I’ve found incredibly powerful. First, I tune into my energy before anything else. This might mean a few minutes of quiet meditation or journaling to truly connect with my inner wisdom. Then, I consciously choose goals that expand me, asking if they make my heart sing and my spirit soar. Third, I make sure they feel good in my body – literally checking for any physical tension or resistance. If it feels heavy, it's not for me. Fourth, I pair them with rituals I enjoy, whether that’s a morning gratitude practice or a weekly nature walk, to keep my spirit nourished. Finally, I make sure to create from desire — not pressure, allowing my intuition to lead the way.
To make these dreams a reality, I build a Purpose + Pleasure Roadmap. Purpose defines what I'm moving toward, while pleasure dictates how I move toward it. I break down my big, soul-led aspirations into manageable monthly, weekly, and daily actions. For example, if my purpose is to expand my creative expression, my pleasure might be dedicating 30 minutes each morning to painting, listening to inspiring music, or simply allowing myself to daydream without judgment. This way, the journey itself becomes a source of joy and energy, not just a means to an end. Remember, your soul doesn't respond to pressure — it responds to pleasure, alignment, and devotion.
