A Home-Buying Timeline for Total Beginners

Here's a SUPER simplified home-buying process, from my experience buying my first home in 2018.

1. Work with a realtor to visit homes and see what you like. They will schedule all the home visits and walk with you through each one. They'll learn what you like and dislike and find homes in the area you want.

2. Choose a home and put in an offer! Again, your realtor will help you with this step and with the communication between the seller's agent.

3. Once the offer is accepted, schedule an inspection and appraisal. This will uncover any issues with the home and will also ensure the home is at a fair market value.

4. Negotiate with the seller if anything came up during inspection or appraisal. We even asked for the washer/dryer and appliances to stay with the home. You can work all these details out with your realtor!

5. Sign the paperwork that transfers ownership and move in!

It can feel overwhelming, but your realtor will guide you through this pivotal step. Finally, after officializing the deal and completing the paperwork, you'll receive the keys to what will soon be your new home. Celebrate this significant milestone, and embrace the DIY projects that await you, as you personalize and transform your new place into your dream home. Remember, each step is integral to becoming a successful homeowner!
