Girls Like This—My Forever Favorite

There was a time when I cared more about similarity than difference.

I kept hoping to meet another version of myself—

a person who could quietly understand me,

the kind Gorky described as

“someone you can sit beside in silence yet feel deeply connected to.”

But later I realized— the girls who give me the most strength are nothing like me.

They show me alternate answers to the questions I can’t solve.

Sometimes they don’t need to say anything at all— I see how boldly they live, and suddenly, I understand what to do.

Here are a few women who have carried me, healed me, and shaped me.

🌙 L — The Kind One

Ten years of friendship,

and still the first word I think of is kindness.

Three years ago on a long, brutal hike,

we started at 4 AM— walked through darkness to sunrise, and back into darkness again.

By the end, I felt my soul slipping out with the sweat. Everyone around us was exhausted, silent, barely breathing.

Except her.

She still checked on everyone—helped the girl behind her with her backpack, helped an older woman with her water, kept asking if I was okay.

I remember thinking:

What kind of girl still thinks of others when she’s this tired?

Kindness wasn’t an act.

It was her nature.

We don’t talk often, yet we’ve never felt distant.

She cares nothing about appearances—

wears the same outfit, no makeup, lives without WiFi, keeps her life astonishingly simple.

Mostly quiet, except when she talks about two things: hiking and books.

In college, she paid for four years of life through part-time jobs.

After working three years, she saved enough to study in Spain. Before she left, she told me:

“The security my parents couldn’t give me—

I’ll earn it back myself, slowly and surely.”

🌙 M — The Disciplined One

Small, soft-spoken,

yet trains two hours every single day.

Countless weekends,

she dragged me into the gym,

lectured me passionately about proper form,

and reminded me that I needed strength training,

not just endless cardio.

I complained every time and followed her every time. If you have a friend who pulls you forward like this—hold on tight.

🌙 J — The Late Bloomer

She’s a mother. Entered the workforce at 35.

And at 48, she’s thriving more than ever.

She always says women deserve long careers,

and she’s proud that, in every meeting,

she’s one of the few female voices at the table.

Sometimes I wonder— In ten years, will I still love my work like she does? Or will I be crushed by age anxiety?

In low moments,

I remember what she taught me:

“Right awareness. Right mindfulness.”

If the mind stays steady,

the world cannot shake you.

And so, I realized—

Different genders carry different powers,

but the greatest gifts in my life have almost all come from women.

They are real, resilient, joyful, warm,

fiercely committed to the lives they choose,

and brave enough to embrace this world fully.

They are the ones I truly love,
