For clarity and integrity, I have been married several times in my life. However, I have never “shacked up” or lived with a man outside of marriage.
I have always honored the principle of covenant, structure, and commitment in relationships. My standard has remained clear and consistent.
As I return to teaching on the Laws of Intimacy in Marriage, I stand fully grounded in the values I speak from.
— Dr. Donaleah Dedrick
Throughout my years of experience in marriage, I have found that embracing the principles of covenant and commitment provides a foundation for lasting intimacy and mutual respect. Unlike many modern approaches that may blur the lines of commitment by cohabiting without marriage, I have held steadfast to the belief that true intimacy grows from a structured, committed relationship. The 'Law of Presence' mentioned in Dr. Donaleah Dedrick's teachings resonates deeply with me. Being fully present and emotionally available for your spouse builds the trust and love that sustain a marriage through challenges. In my life, returning to these fundamental laws of intimacy has strengthened my relationships, even after multiple marriages. Many may question why someone would choose to remarry multiple times while maintaining such stringent standards about living arrangements. For me, each marriage was approached as a sacred covenant — a promise to uphold values of respect, fidelity, and emotional connection. Living with a partner outside of marriage, or "shacking up," never aligned with these values. This approach encourages couples to view marriage as more than a contract — it is a commitment that requires conscious effort and mutual dedication. Teaching and learning the seven intimacy laws have helped me and others reclaim the essence of intimate relationships beyond physical presence, focusing on vulnerability, communication, and honoring each other’s boundaries. If you're navigating the complexities of marriage, whether through remarriage or long-term commitment, embracing these principles can create a fulfilling and enduring connection. It’s about honoring the sacred structure of the covenant, standing firm in your values, and actively nurturing the intimacy that binds you both.
