The Great Sand Dunes
Located in the San Luis Valley in southern Colorado are North Americas tallest sand dunes at more than 700ft tall. With the Sangre De Cristo mountain range acting as a barrier, wind has blown sand to this location and built the dunes for nearly half a million years.
Its a great area to check out with sights unlike anything your going to see nearly anywhere else in the country and not to mention it makes for one hell of a hike. My legs are still jello as I write this from climbing the mile and a half to the top.
If you visit in summer be warned that the sand gets hot, upwards of 140*f, so bring proper footwear.
