As a long-time Kingdom Hearts fan, if there's one thing almost every player can relate to, it's the infamous 'Donald, HEAL ME!' moment. We've all been there – low on HP, desperately waiting for our trusty magic-wielding companion to cast Cure, only for him to launch a Fire spell at a single Shadow. It’s a running gag that’s as old as the series itself, and honestly, it’s part of the charm (and frustration!) of playing these incredible games. But have you ever really thought about why Donald seems to have such questionable timing? Part of it comes down to the game's party AI system. In the earlier Kingdom Hearts titles, especially KH1, party member AI could feel quite rigid. Donald, for instance, often prioritizes offensive magic or buffs over healing, especially if he's set to 'Attack freely' or if his MP is being used for other spells. My personal strategy for dealing with this often involved setting his behavior to focus more on support or, frankly, just keeping a close eye on my own item shortcuts for Potions and Ethers! It's a classic case of learning to adapt to your companions' quirks rather than expecting perfection. Speaking of companions, let's not forget Goofy! While Donald gets all the flak for his healing habits, Goofy is often the unsung hero. His 'MP Gift' ability, especially in later games, can be a lifesaver, restoring Sora's MP when you need it most. Plus, his defensive abilities and ability to use shields make him a surprisingly solid tank. I remember countless boss battles where Goofy's MP Gift allowed me to cast that crucial Cura spell or unleash a finishing combo. He might not be the flashiest, but his utility is undeniable. Comparing their AI, I've always found Goofy's actions to be a bit more predictable and consistently helpful in a supportive role, whereas Donald's magic usage can sometimes feel like a wild card. While the game’s tech for party AI has certainly evolved over the series, that core feeling of yelling at your screen for Donald to just heal remains a shared experience. It’s moments like these that truly bind the Kingdom Hearts community together. We laugh, we cry (usually from getting KO'd because Donald was too busy casting Aero), and we keep coming back for more. It's a testament to how engaging the characters and world are that we embrace these little imperfections as part of the journey. Ultimately, mastering Kingdom Hearts isn't just about mastering Sora's abilities; it’s about understanding and strategically managing your entire party. Whether it's adjusting their combat settings, equipping them with the right accessories, or simply learning to anticipate their next move (or lack thereof!), these strategies become second nature for seasoned players. So, next time Donald decides to cast a meaningless spell while your HP is critical, just remember: you're not alone in that frustration. It's all part of the magical, sometimes maddening, world of Kingdom Hearts!
