Pilates, PCOS & Depression 🌟
Getting diagnosed with PCOS while in the midst of having depression is very difficult. My energy and self-esteem was already struggling and I couldn’t get myself out of that funk. I have been gaining weight like crazy these past few years even though while I was growing up, I would struggle to put on weight.
As much as I wanted to do something about the weight gain and low energy, my mental health was keeping me from it. I had time and time again tried to get back into working out but my mental health wasn’t good. I finally decided to do something about it. I needed to heal my mental health in order for me to heal my physical health.
I started going to therapy in the beginning of the year and I have been feeling better little by little. I’m not going to feel 💯 overnight but as long as I’m feeling better than the day before, it’s progress!
Now, why Pilates? It’s not just because it’s a current fad and wanting to be a Pilates Princess 👑. Aside from weight loss, I was also I n a second car accident almost 2 years ago and had a pretty bad knee injury so it affected a lot of things in my life. Since Pilates can be low impact, it will help my knee injury and PCOS simultaneously.
I bought a couple things on Amazon and will be watching Pilates Body by Raven to help me throughout this journey. Wish me luck!
If you have any recommendations of things that can help my knee pain drop them down below pleaseeeee 💞🙏🏽 #pilates #pcos #depression #pilatesprincess
It's been a journey, and I really wanted to share more about why I specifically chose Pilates Body by Raven to help me navigate the complexities of PCOS, depression, and a recovering knee. When you're dealing with multiple health challenges, finding an exercise routine that feels empowering rather than draining is crucial. That's exactly what I found with Raven's approach. Why Pilates for PCOS? Beyond Just Weight Loss For so long, the advice for PCOS felt overwhelming – "lose weight," "eat clean," "exercise more." But when you're battling low energy and mood swings, sometimes the thought of an intense workout is just too much. Pilates, especially the low-impact style Raven teaches, has been a revelation. It focuses on core strength, flexibility, and controlled movements, which is fantastic for managing PCOS symptoms. Many women with PCOS experience chronic inflammation and stress, both of which can worsen symptoms. Pilates encourages mindful movement and breathwork, which can significantly reduce stress hormones. It's not about burning a huge number of calories in one session; it's about building consistent strength, improving insulin sensitivity over time, and supporting hormonal balance through gentle, effective movement. It also helps with body awareness, which is a powerful tool for self-care when dealing with a condition like PCOS. A Path to Healing: Pilates for Depression My mental health was a huge barrier to physical activity. The beauty of Pilates Body by Raven is that her sessions, like a "25 Min Daily Pilates Workout," are accessible and don't feel intimidating. The mental focus required for Pilates creates a meditative state, drawing attention away from anxious thoughts and into the present moment. Each session becomes a small victory, contributing to a sense of accomplishment and boosting self-esteem – something vital when depression weighs you down. The endorphins released from even gentle exercise are powerful mood lifters, and the routine itself provides structure and a positive habit. It’s a holistic approach that connects mind and body, reminding me that healing isn't just physical. Gentle Strength: Supporting a Knee Injury with Pilates After my car accident, my knee pain made many exercises impossible. This is where Pilates truly shines for injury recovery. It’s inherently a low-impact exercise, meaning less stress on joints. Raven's guidance helps you focus on proper form and engaging deep stabilizing muscles around the knee, like those in the glutes and core. This strengthens the support system for the knee joint without putting it through jarring movements. Rather than avoiding movement, Pilates helps you rebuild strength and flexibility safely. It’s about careful, controlled movements that gradually restore function and prevent re-injury, making it an ideal choice for anyone with joint issues. Getting Started with Pilates Body by Raven at Home: My Essentials One of the best things about Raven's program is how easily it can be done at home. You don't need a fancy "REFORMER" machine to get started – mat Pilates is incredibly effective. For my "HOME PILATES Necessities," I invested in a few key items. A good yoga mat is a must; I opted for a "Signature Fitness All Purpose 1/2-Inch Extra Thick High Density Anti-Tear Exercise Yoga Mat" for extra cushioning, especially for my knees. Another game-changer has been the "URBNFit Pilates Ring - 12\" Magic Circle." It adds an extra dimension to many exercises, helping to engage muscles more deeply and providing feedback on form. My advice? Just start. Pick one of Raven's beginner-friendly videos, set up your mat, and commit to showing up for yourself. Even 15-20 minutes makes a difference. This journey is about progress, not perfection, and every small step forward is a victory.
