How I took 15 days off as a nurse

I took a 15 day vacation by only taking 1 week off & got paid for all 3 weeks. The nursing schedule is one of the reasons why I love this job. Working only 3 days out of the week is amazing if you are someone that loves to travel. Our weeks start on Sundays and end on Saturdays.

Here is how I did it:

Week 1: I worked Sunday, Monday, and tuesday

week 2: Took my 3 shifts off

Week 3: I worked Thursday, Friday, and Saturday.

This is not something I can do every month but it is definitely doable if well coordinated. It allowed me to take 21 days off and come back refreshed. 100% something I recomend if you are experiencing severe burnout.

... Read moreNursing can be a demanding profession, and burnout is a common issue. To combat this, I've discovered how to cleverly manage my schedule to maximize my time off. Many nurses work three 12-hour shifts per week, giving us the unique flexibility to plan vacations effectively. By aligning my workdays with my desired days off, I took advantage of the nursing schedule to create a longer vacation without losing income. For instance, I worked for two weeks, followed by a strategic break where I planned travel and leisure activities. This approach allowed me to come back to work feeling refreshed and more engaged, which ultimately benefits my team and patients. To further enhance your time off without compromising your responsibilities, consider these strategies: Communicate with your colleagues for coverage, plan your shifts around holidays or special events, and maintain an image of professionalism to ensure you can utilize your time off effectively. Implementing these practices can lead to a healthier work-life balance, reduce stress, and prevent burnout in a profession that demands a lot of emotional and physical energy.
