I did a skeleTON of work to keep my promise
Hey everyone! Seeing my Sans cosplay come together really got me thinking about his character, especially that famous promise to Toriel. You know, the one where he's supposed to look out for any human that falls into the Underground? The game kinda leaves you wondering, doesn't it? Like, is he really trying to keep it, or is he 'doing ABSOLutely nothing' as some of us joke? It’s one of those things that makes Undertale so captivating – there’s so much room for interpretation and diving deep into the lore. That's probably why the Undertale fandom is so rich with fan theories and Alternate Universes (AUs). We all love exploring the 'what ifs' and imagining different scenarios for our favorite characters, whether it's Frisk trying their best to get out peacefully, or what happens when Sans takes his role even more seriously. One of the really popular ones I've come across, and that some of you might know, is the 'Anchor Verse Undertale'. The Anchor Verse is a fascinating take on the Undertale world. Without giving away too many spoilers for those who haven't explored it, it often delves into much darker themes and reimagines the characters' roles and motivations in profound ways. It’s not just a simple re-skin; it’s a whole new narrative woven around the core elements we love. For Sans, in particular, the Anchor Verse often explores the weight of his knowledge, his apathy, and how his promise to Toriel might manifest or be twisted in a different timeline or reality. It really makes you think about his true power and intentions, even when he seems so laid back. These AUs thrive because they allow us to see our beloved characters, like Sans and Frisk, in entirely new lights – sometimes more heroic, sometimes more tragic, always deeply engaging. When you cosplay a character like Sans, you really start to embody these layers. You think about his dialogue, his expressions, and the subtle hints Toby Fox sprinkled throughout the game. Is he a protector, a judge, or just a lazy skeleton trying to get by? In the Anchor Verse, these questions are often pushed to their extremes, offering a fresh perspective on the same beloved characters. It's a testament to how well-written Undertale is that it can inspire so many diverse interpretations. What makes these fan creations, especially something as intricate as the Anchor Verse, so appealing? I think it's because Undertale itself encourages us to question everything. The game’s commentary on choice and consequence naturally leads players to wonder about other paths, other possibilities. AUs provide that space. They allow us to process game events differently, to imagine how characters like Sans might react under different pressures, or what the Underground would truly be like if Frisk's journey took a darker turn. It’s a way for the community to collectively keep the story alive and evolving, constantly finding new layers in a game we already adore. So, whether you're a fan of the original game, or you're deep into the fanon like Anchor Verse, there's always something new to discover about Frisk's journey, Sans's mysterious past, and Toriel's unwavering hope.
