I C what you did there
Creating a Sans cosplay for Undertale was one of the most rewarding projects I've tackled lately! When I first decided to cosplay Sans, I knew I was in for a fun challenge. He's such a beloved character, and getting his laid-back, yet powerful, vibe just right felt crucial. The first step was, of course, gathering references. Sans' design is deceptively simple: a blue hoodie with a white drawstring, black shorts with a white stripe, pink slippers, and a white t-shirt. But it's in the details and the attitude that the magic happens. I spent a good amount of time looking at fan art and official sprites to make sure I captured his essence. For the hoodie, I opted for a slightly oversized blue hoodie from a thrift store. This gave it that comfortable, slouchy look Sans is known for. I found that adding a white drawstring really made a difference, as it's a small but distinctive detail. The black shorts were easy to find, and I added a white fabric strip along the side to match his look perfectly. And those pink slippers? They were surprisingly hard to track down in the right shade, but totally worth it for the authenticity! One of the biggest challenges was probably the 'face' – or lack thereof. Since Sans is a skeleton, I needed a way to create his skull-like appearance without being too uncomfortable. I decided against a full mask and instead focused on makeup for my visible skin and a good quality, comfortable hood to frame my face. For his glowing eye, I experimented with LED lights. Tucking a small blue LED behind my hood, positioned strategically, gave that iconic single glowing eye effect, especially in dim lighting, which looked super cool in photos! Another fun part was working out his posture and attitude. Sans is all about relaxed confidence, so I practiced his classic hands-in-pockets pose and that slight, knowing smirk. It wasn't just about the costume; it was about embodying the character. I even tried to perfect his slightly slouched walk! It really makes a difference when you get into character. If you're thinking about cosplaying a skeleton like Sans or even his brother Papyrus, my biggest advice is to focus on comfort and expression. You'll be wearing this for hours, so make sure you can move and breathe easily. Don't be afraid to add your own personal touches too! After all, cosplay is about celebrating characters we love. Seeing other Undertale fans' reactions to my Sans was incredibly rewarding. It’s always a joy to connect with people who share the same passion for this amazing game!
