This is your sign
to not throw away your Hydrengea if the flowers have died! I absolutely love Hydrengeas, even though I struggle keeping them alive. Here are a couple things I've learned:
🌱: water at least 2-3 times a week indoors and everyday if outdoors (twice a day if it's hot)
🌿: flowers will droop if they need water and you have to act quickly or it will dry out.
🪴: when dead heading your flowers make sure to observe where the next grow point is so you get beautiful new leaves 🍃
Hydrangeas are popular ornamental plants known for their large, colorful flower clusters and lush foliage. To help your hydrangeas thrive, it’s important to understand their specific water and care needs. Hydrangeas prefer consistently moist soil but do not tolerate waterlogged conditions. Indoor hydrangeas should be watered at least two to three times weekly, adjusting frequency based on pot size and plant health. Outdoor hydrangeas generally require daily watering during the growing season, and in hot weather, watering twice a day helps prevent wilting. One of the early signs your hydrangea needs watering is drooping flowers and leaves. Acting quickly to rehydrate the plant can save flowers and prevent long-term damage. When watering, aim for deep soil penetration to encourage strong root development. Deadheading, or removing spent flower heads, supports continued blooming and plant vitality. It's crucial to identify the next growth point when cutting back flowers to promote new shoots and healthy leaf development. This encourages a fuller plant and more abundant blossoms in subsequent seasons. In addition to watering and deadheading, ensure your hydrangea receives the right light conditions—partial shade is ideal for most varieties. They also benefit from occasional fertilization with a balanced, slow-release fertilizer tailored for flowering shrubs. Proper drainage is essential; if planting in containers, use pots with drainage holes to avoid root rot. Mulching around outdoor hydrangeas can help conserve moisture and regulate soil temperature. By following these essential care practices—regular watering adjusted to environment, timely deadheading with attention to growth points, appropriate light exposure, and good soil conditions—you can enjoy healthy hydrangeas that brighten your living space with stunning blooms all season long.
