✨ First-time pregnancy comes with a LOT of questions ... and that’s normal. ✨
Every week can bring new symptoms, confusing advice, and reasons to worry. As an OB-GYN, these are the questions I hear most often and the answers I want every pregnant patient to have.
🤍 Food safety > food fear. Avoid foods that may carry harmful bacteria (raw/undercooked meat, unpasteurized dairy, raw sprouts, deli meats unless heated). Skip high-mercury fish, but know that safe seafood options exist.
☕ Yes, coffee is allowed. Up to 200 mg of caffeine/day is considered safe for most pregnancies.
🏃🏽♀️ Exercise is encouraged with flexibility. Aim for 150 minutes of moderate activity/week if it feels good. Walking, swimming, yoga and listening to your body... go a long way.
👶🏽 Movement comes later. Most first-time moms feel kicks around 5 months. Once you do, daily movement matters and decreased movement should always be checked.
😴 Sleep doesn’t have to be perfect. Side sleeping is ideal later in pregnancy, but don’t panic if you wake up on your back just roll over.
💨 Shortness of breath can be normal, but chest pain, fainting, or big changes = call your OB-GYN.
💬 Bottom line: There are no silly questions in pregnancy. If something feels off, reach out. We’re here.
👟 Half Marathon Mondays: I’m trading repro tips for fundraising tips as I train for 13.1 miles to support reproductive healthcare access.
