... Read moreLiving with ADHD often means cycling through intense interests and passions, a pattern many with ADHD can relate to. For example, hyperfixation on a new hobby might lead you to purchase a variety of supplies in excitement, only to lose interest a short time later. Over time, this can lead to accumulating what some call a "hobby graveyard"—a collection of unfinished projects and unused materials. This behavior is not a sign of laziness, although many with ADHD unfairly label themselves this way. Understanding that ADHD can affect attention span and motivation helps in developing self-compassion. Personally, I've found setting small, manageable goals and embracing the natural ebb and flow of my interests to be helpful strategies. Remembering past hobbies years later is also common. It serves as a reminder that the passion was genuine, even if sustained engagement was challenging. Connecting with others who share these experiences, such as through ADHD communities and forums, can provide support and reduce feelings of isolation. Overall, if we all had ADHD, these shared experiences would likely normalize diverse attention and interest patterns, reducing stigma and increasing empathy across society.
