I am doing a series on impulse control disorders and pyromania is one of them. Humans evolved to be drawn to fire 🔥 because it keeps us warm, gives us light, protects us and feeds us when cooking. We become soothed and relaxed by the multi-sensory aspects of watching, listening to and feeling the sights, sounds and sensations of fire. 🔥
Some us us have an impulse control disorder called pyromania and we cannot control the overwhelming urge to not be around fires. This leads to repeatedly setting fires, having an intense urge to set them, feeing relief and satisfaction once set and a lack of remorse after things burn and are destroyed.
A combination of therapy and medication has been proven to help address this serious condition.
Which impulse control disorder should I cover next?
