Gave talk "Beyond Survival: Rebuilding Life, Love & Relationships After Breast Cancer" for their Young Breast Cancer Support Group, Breast Cancer Foundation this evening at Delifrance SingPost, Paya Lebar. How does one cover something so heavy? I don't know how others do but I tend to share my own stories, experiences, and make fun of myself while doing it.

I was so surprised and touched they closed their restaurant for the event. They allowed for deliveries/ pick up during that time.

... Read moreAttending or hosting support group talks like "Beyond Survival: Rebuilding Life, Love & Relationships After Breast Cancer" plays a vital role in the recovery journey for many breast cancer survivors. From personal experience, I have found that openly sharing my story—including the challenges and moments of humor—helps reduce the overwhelming weight of the experience. It creates a genuine connection that eases feelings of isolation often felt after diagnosis and treatment. One surprising and touching aspect of such events can be the community support beyond just the attendees. For instance, the restaurant at Delifrance SingPost, Paya Lebar, closed their dining area specifically to honor the event, choosing to permit only delivery and pickup during that time. This act highlighted how quality of life matters extend beyond medical care to include emotional and social support systems. Rebuilding relationships after breast cancer can be complex. It involves communication, patience, and sometimes professional counseling to navigate changes in intimacy, family roles, and friendships. Group talks often emphasize the importance of keeping close those who truly support and uplift you—echoing the sentiment seen on motivational signs like "Keep such people close to your heart." Through these gatherings, conversations delve into survival but importantly advance towards thriving by fostering love and authentic human connections. In my journey, embracing vulnerability and humor has been a powerful tool, transforming a heavy topic into a catalyst for renewed hope and resilience. For those facing similar challenges, I recommend seeking out local or online support groups where you can share your stories safely and learn from others who walk this path. Surrounding yourself with understanding people and professionals can lead to meaningful rebuilding of life, love, and relationships after breast cancer.

Nobody taught us this in school.
