puncture kit tutorial

... Read moreHey fellow riders! So you've got your puncture kit, but that sinking feeling when you actually need to use it can be daunting, right? I totally get it. When I first started out, a flat tire felt like the end of the world. But trust me, once you know the steps, you'll feel so much more confident. This isn't just about fixing a tire; it's about staying safe and independent on the road! First things first, let’s make sure you know what’s usually in your kit: usually, you’ll find a rasper tool, rubber solution or cement, various sizes of patches, and sometimes tire levers or CO2 cartridges. Knowing your tools is half the battle! Here’s my go-to, step-by-step guide for repairing that annoying flat: Safety First, Always: Pull over to a safe spot, preferably off the road. Make sure your bike is stable. Locate the Culprit: Spin the wheel slowly and visually inspect the tire for the puncture source – a nail, screw, or sharp object. Once you find it, mark it with chalk or a pen so you don't lose sight of it. If the object is still in the tire, carefully remove it with pliers. Prep the Area: Use the rasper tool (it looks like a small file) to roughen the area around the puncture. This creates a better surface for the patch to adhere to. Make sure the area is clean and dry. Apply the Rubber Solution: This is where you need to be careful! Apply a thin, even layer of the rubber solution or cement to the roughened area, slightly larger than your chosen patch. Important safety tip from my own experience: Be mindful when handling the solution. Try to avoid contact with your eyes or skin. If it accidentally gets on your skin, wash it off with water immediately. If it gets in your eyes, flush with plenty of water and seek first aid if irritation persists. Always use it in a well-ventilated area. Let the solution dry for a few minutes until it’s tacky, not wet. Apply the Patch: Peel the backing off your chosen patch (make sure it's big enough to cover the puncture completely). Center the patch over the puncture and press it down firmly for a few minutes. Apply consistent pressure, working from the center outwards to push out any air bubbles. Inflation Time: Once the patch is secure, carefully peel off any clear plastic cover. Now, re-inflate your tire. If you have CO2 cartridges, follow their instructions carefully. Otherwise, use your portable pump. Inflate it to a pressure that allows you to ride safely to the nearest service station. The Soap Test (My secret weapon!): Before you ride off, mix some dish soap with water and apply it over the patched area. If you see any bubbles forming, it means there’s still a leak. If no bubbles, you’re good to go! A few extra tips from my riding journal: Always carry a small, portable pump or extra CO2 cartridges. While a DIY repair can get you out of a tough spot, it's always a good idea to get your tire professionally checked and potentially replaced soon after, especially if it was a large puncture. Practice using your kit at home on an old tire if you can – it makes a huge difference when you're under pressure on the roadside. Stay safe out there, and happy riding!

A whiteboard displays the title "Common Tubes And ORDER OF DRAW for DERMAL CAPILLARY PUNCTURE" in colorful markers. Below the title, illustrations of various colored microcollection tubes and a lancet are drawn, representing the different types of tubes used in capillary blood collection.
A whiteboard shows information about Lavender or Pink microcollection tubes for dermal capillary punctures. It states they are first in the order of draw, contain EDTA, and the first drop of blood is not collected.
A whiteboard displays information about Green or Light Green microcollection tubes for dermal capillary punctures. It indicates they are second in the order of draw and contain heparin as an additive.
Dermal Capillary Puncture Order Of Draw🧪💉
Hey yall! I made a post about order of draw for common tubes, and a post about specialty tubes! So why not make a post about Dermal Capillary Tubes!! Here is the order of draw, and the common tubes you will see for them! 1. Lavender or Pink- always first in the order of draw, and NEVER collect th
