Dermal Capillary Puncture Order Of Draw🧪💉
Hey yall! I made a post about order of draw for common tubes, and a post about specialty tubes! So why not make a post about Dermal Capillary Tubes!! Here is the order of draw, and the common tubes you will see for them!
1. Lavender or Pink- always first in the order of draw, and NEVER collect the first drop of blood. Thats for any tube tho! The additive here is EDTA.
2. Green or light green- second in order of draw, and the additive is heparin! Your additives will be the same as venipuncture.
3. Gray- third in order of draw, and the additive is sodium fluoride! Not surprising to see a gray tube for capillary puncture because it tests glucose!
4. Red or Gold- fourth in the order of draw, NO additive for red! As for gold, its your SST so serum separator here.
🧪Next are your capillary tubes.
1. Red Tipped- this has an anticoagulant coating (heparin). These measure hematocrit! Some come pre sealed, if not then use a clay sealant.
2. Blue Tipped- no anticoag so your specimens will clot in this tube. Same as before, if not pre sealed, use a sealant.
3. Black Tipped- these have a smaller diameter to collect a smaller amount of blood, i dont have much information about these tubes! And i struggled to find some! If you know, comment below please🩷
I hope this helps you all in phlebotomy! Order of draw is always important and knowing your tubes will help you along the way! Good luck!
