Supporting local businesses is essential, but it can be frustrating when customer service standards fall short. From personal experience, I’ve noticed that when the "Customer Service bar is on the floor," it directly impacts shoppers’ willingness to return. However, this doesn’t mean we should stop supporting local shops altogether. Shopping locally fosters community growth, helps sustain unique products, and strengthens the local economy. Small businesses often struggle to compete with larger chains, especially when resources for training and development are limited. Therefore, community patience and constructive feedback are vital to encourage improvements. In my neighborhood, some local stores have faced similar challenges. Initially, customers avoided them due to discourteous service and long wait times. However, when the community began engaging with owners, offering honest feedback and encouragement, these businesses invested more in staff training and customer experience. Over time, their customer service improved significantly. So, while it’s easy to feel frustrated and "wanna cry about nobody shopping local," we should remember that shopping local is a two-way street. We need to support these businesses with patience and constructive criticism. Encouragement and loyalty can motivate them to raise their customer service bar from the floor to meet our expectations. Only through mutual effort can shopping local thrive and benefit us all.
