What specific tests did you do to confirm PCOS?
I never had regular periods - sometimes going 3 months without one. Then, I went to the doc, did blood work then ultrasound. Boom, PCOS confirmed.
I understand some women here have the usual symptoms of weight gain, body hair, irregular periods which are clear identifiers but for women who did not have these symptoms what did your gyanec or RE look at to give you the PCOS diagnosis?
Polycystic Ovary Syndrome (PCOS) is often confirmed through a combination of blood tests and ultrasound examinations. Typical blood tests include measuring hormone levels to check for elevated androgens, which can contribute to PCOS symptoms. Ultrasounds are used to observe the ovaries for cysts, a common indicator of the condition. Beyond the traditional symptoms like irregular periods and weight gain, some women might not display typical signs, making diagnosis more complex. Other contributing factors might include metabolic analysis or family health history. It's essential for women experiencing symptoms that align with PCOS to seek comprehensive evaluations that consider various aspects of their health, including lifestyle, diet, and hormonal levels. A PCOS diet often emphasizes whole foods, reduced sugar intake, and balanced macronutrients to help manage the condition effectively. Awareness and proper testing pave the way for personalized treatment plans, empowering women with PCOS to manage their health effectively.
