Most people think my stroke or aphasia is tragic. I don’t. It’s just another life experience. I get to experience more of what it means to be human — confusion, discovery, relearning language, laughing when words don’t land the way I meant them to. It’s not loss, it’s living. I get to see the world from a place most people never do.
Living with aphasia after a stroke often feels like opening a door to a completely new world. Many people face the daunting task of relearning how to communicate, a process that is as challenging as it is humbling. However, this journey also offers unique insights into resilience and the human spirit. Aphasia can disrupt the way language flows, making simple conversations require extra effort and creativity. Yet, amid the struggles, there is room for laughter—sometimes when words don’t quite land as intended, moments of joy and shared understanding remind us that communication is more than just language.
