Combining breastfeeding and pumping 🌸

#lemon8diarychallenge #breastfeedingtips #pumpingmom #sahm #explorepage

Combining breastfeeding with pumping was a game-changer for me! This method actually tricks your body into thinking your baby needs more milk than they do, which signals it to make more.

Thanks to this, I was able to pump 5–8 oz every session—even after nursing! I’ve even frozen over 750 oz so far 🍼❄️

Hope this helps other mamas on their journey! 🌼

... Read moreDiscovering the magic of combining breastfeeding and pumping was a lightbulb moment for me! Like many new parents, I worried about having enough milk, especially if I wanted to build a stash for emergencies or returning to work. What I learned is that this method isn't just about collecting extra milk; it’s a brilliant way to signal to your body that your baby has a higher demand, thereby increasing your overall milk production. The core idea behind this strategy is leveraging your body's supply-and-demand system. When you breastfeed, your body gets the signal to produce milk. When you pump after or between breastfeeding sessions, your body interprets this as an additional demand, prompting it to produce even more. It’s like telling your body, 'Hey, we need more of this good stuff!' And it responds! To make this work effectively, a structured routine, or a 'Schedule for Combining Breastfeeding and Pumping,' is incredibly helpful. Based on my experience, and similar to the schedule I followed, here’s how you can integrate it into your day: Morning (6 A.M. - 9 A.M.): The Power Hours 6 A.M.: Breastfeed. This is usually when your milk supply is highest. Let your baby feed fully from both breasts if they wish. 6:30 A.M. - 7 A.M. (or 30 mins after feeding): Pump. Even if you feel 'empty,' pump for 10-15 minutes. You might not get much at first, but consistency is key. Your body will get the message. 9 A.M.: Breastfeed. Repeat the feeding process. Daytime (10 A.M. - 5 P.M.): Consistent Stimulation 10 A.M.: Pump. If your baby is sleeping or had a long stretch between feeds, this is a great time for a dedicated pumping session. 12 P.M.: Breastfeed. Continue feeding on demand. 1 P.M. - 2 P.M.: Pump. Try to fit in another pump session, perhaps 30 minutes after a feed, or if your little one is napping. This consistency throughout the day is crucial for maintaining signals to your body. 3 P.M.: Breastfeed. 5 P.M.: Pump. Evening (6 P.M. - 10 P.M.): Building the Stash 6 P.M.: Breastfeed. 8 P.M.: Breastfeed / put baby to bed. This is often the cluster feeding time for many babies. Let them feed to their heart's content. 9 P.M. - 10 P.M.: Pump. After your baby is asleep, this is an excellent time for a final pump session. Many find they get a significant amount here, especially if their baby had a shorter feed before bed or if they're settling in for a longer stretch of sleep. This evening pump was key to me freezing over 750 oz of milk! Tips for Success on Your Journey: Hydration & Nutrition: Think of yourself as a milk factory! You need plenty of water and nutritious food to keep production running smoothly. Pump Quality & Flange Size: Ensure your pump is efficient and your flange size is correct. An ill-fitting flange can cause pain and reduce output. Hands-On Pumping: Massaging your breasts while pumping can help empty them more effectively and increase milk yield. Power Pumping (for an extra boost or relactation): If you're looking to significantly increase supply or relactate, consider power pumping once a day. This mimics a baby's cluster feeding: pump for 20 mins, rest for 10, pump for 10, rest for 10, pump for 10. Do this for about an hour. Flexibility is Key: This schedule is a guide. Life with a baby is unpredictable! Don't stress if you miss a pump or a feed. The goal is consistency over perfection. Store Safely: Always label your pumped milk with the date and amount. Follow safe storage guidelines (e.g., 4 hours at room temp, 4 days in fridge, 6-12 months in freezer) to build your precious stash securely. Combining these methods truly made a difference in my personal experience, not just in boosting my milk supply but also in giving me peace of mind. Knowing I had a freezer full of milk provided so much flexibility and security for my family.
