... Read moreHey everyone! I'm so thrilled you're here checking out my Honse Umamusume fan art. I know many of you are searching for 'Honse Uma' and I wanted to share a little more about the inspiration and process behind my latest piece. Drawing Umamusume characters has become one of my favorite creative outlets, and bringing 'Honse' to life in this hand-drawn sketch was a real joy!
When I started this project, my goal was to capture the vibrant energy of the Umamusume world with my own unique spin. You can see in the sketch that I’ve focused on three distinct anime-style characters, all embodying different aspects. The first is a playful chibi figure – I absolutely love drawing chibis because they bring so much cuteness and personality in a compact form. It's a great way to explore character expressions. Then there's the colored headshot of a smiling character, which allowed me to experiment with digital coloring techniques after the initial pencil drawing was complete. Getting those vibrant colors just right, especially for an Umamusume character's hair and eyes, really makes them pop!
The largest part of the artwork is a detailed pencil drawing of another character, also with a wonderfully wide smile. For this one, I really wanted to emphasize movement and a sense of joy, which is so characteristic of the Umamusume universe. 'Honse' itself is a special element within the piece, visible and tying these characters together. I often get asked how I come up with concepts like 'Honse' for fan art, and honestly, it’s a mix of diving deep into the game's lore and letting my imagination run wild for original interpretations or characters.
If you're an aspiring artist or just love Umamusume, I highly recommend trying your hand at fan art! Start with a simple pencil drawing to get the basic shapes down. Don't be afraid to sketch multiple poses and expressions. For the headshots, focus on the eyes – they're the windows to the soul, even for animated characters! And when you're ready to add color, whether it's traditional or digital, think about the character's personality. Does a vibrant palette suit them, or something softer?
