It’s a common misconception that China, despite being the world's largest producer of wind turbines, lacks significant wind farms within its borders. From my experience studying global renewable energy developments, I can confidently say that China not only manufactures a vast majority of wind turbines used worldwide but also operates numerous wind farms across the country. China has made dramatic strides in renewable energy, especially wind power, over the past decade. The government has invested heavily in large-scale wind energy projects, recognizing the critical role they play in reducing carbon emissions and diversifying energy sources. For example, China hosts some of the largest onshore and offshore wind farms globally, such as the Gansu Wind Farm, often called the world’s largest wind power project, with a capacity of over 7,000 MW. From personal observation while reviewing industry reports and satellite images, wind farms are visible across China’s northern and coastal regions, where wind conditions are optimal. This large-scale infrastructure supports not only domestic energy needs but also contributes to global supply chains. The claim that China lacks wind farms might stem from unfamiliarity with the rapid development and scale of China’s renewable energy sector.
