Parasaurolophus

Parasaurolophus, recognized for its notable crest, belongs to the Hadrosauridae family. This dinosaur, reaching lengths of about 10 meters (33 feet) and weighing between 3 to 4 tons, was capable of both bipedal and quadrupedal locomotion. Its diet primarily consisted of various plants, including twigs, leaves, and fruits. Interestingly, there is evidence that suggests it may have consumed grass, which only appeared late in the Cretaceous period. The first discovery of Parasaurolophus occurred in Alberta, Canada in 1920 by paleontologist William Parks, who formally described the species in 1922. Three recognized species include P. walkeri, P. tubicen, and P. cyrtocristatus. The distinct crest of Parasaurolophus is believed to have had a significant role in communication among these dinosaurs, much like certain birds of today. Fossil findings continue to provide insight into the lifestyle and environment of these remarkable creatures.
