My Toddler is safe in my arms
Our little humans are okay to have their emotions. It’s okay to have big feelings. Today my toddler and I are just cuddling because she wasn’t having a great morning but does feel safe to be on top of me holding her until she regulates.
Cuddling with your toddler not only offers comfort but also helps them learn to regulate their emotions. During tough times, it is crucial to create a safe space for toddlers to express their feelings. Children can experience significant emotional swings, and as parents, it’s our responsibility to help them navigate these feelings. Establishing routines that include affectionate moments fosters a child's sense of security, enabling them to better process their emotions. Engaging in physical closeness allows toddlers to feel understood and protected, which is foundational for their emotional health. As a parent, be mindful of your child's feelings and reactions. Let them know it’s okay to feel upset or angry; these feelings are perfectly normal. Encourage them to express their emotions through play, talking, or art, which helps them articulate their feelings more clearly. Moreover, creating a nurturing environment where children feel safe to express their emotions without judgment allows them to build resilience against future challenges. This process of emotional understanding is not only crucial for toddlers but continues to benefit them throughout their growth into adulthood.
