iReady Olympics!

You know how it can sometimes be a challenge to keep students engaged with online learning programs like iReady? I certainly did! I was constantly looking for new ways to spark that intrinsic motivation, something beyond just grades, that would make them genuinely excited to log on and complete their lessons. That's when the idea for our 'iReady Olympics!' was born, and honestly, it's been a game-changer in my classroom. What exactly is it? Well, it's our own little celebration of progress! We created a vibrant iReady Olympics! incentive chart right there on our classroom wall. The concept is simple but powerful: students earn recognition for hitting specific milestones on their MyPath lessons. We've got three main tiers, just like actual Olympics medals: BRONZE for passing 50 lessons, SILVER for reaching 75 lessons, and the coveted GOLD medal for conquering 100 lessons passed! You can literally see the excitement in their eyes as they get closer to each goal. The best part? When a student achieves one of these milestones, their student photos go up on the incentive chart! It’s a huge moment for them. You can see their little faces beaming with pride when they point to their picture. Above our chart, we also have our student vision boards, which adds to the personalized and goal-oriented atmosphere of our learning space. It’s not just about completing tasks; it’s about publicly celebrating their hard work and showing everyone what they've accomplished. This visual recognition truly makes a difference, turning what could be a solitary online activity into a shared classroom achievement. I've found that this system provides such a tangible sense of accomplishment. It's not just about a sticker or a small prize; it’s about earning a spot on our 'Wall of Fame.' Knowing that their peers and I see their progress motivates them to push a little harder. They start encouraging each other, too, which builds a fantastic supportive community. Seeing the GOLD section fill up with photos of students who've passed 100 lessons is incredibly rewarding for everyone, including me! We printed out some fun templates, laminated them, and used Velcro dots so the photos can be easily moved or updated. Second, celebrate each milestone publicly – a quick shout-out, a round of applause, or even a small certificate. It reinforces the value of their effort. Third, consider what happens after 100 lessons passed. Maybe a 'Platinum' tier for 125, or a special mention for students who go above and beyond.
