Sunday Snackies with Eevee and Yoshi!
Heart is packed with Taurine, which is an essential part of a cat's diet. They have eaten chicken hearts for years and loved them, but I want to switch them to a different non-poultry option for a while. I've tried beef heart in the past and Eevee wouldn't touch it, so here is our first attempt at seeing which protein she WILL eat!
As a cat parent to my beloved Ragdolls, Eevee and Yoshi, I’m constantly exploring ways to keep them healthy and happy, especially when it comes to their diet. We all know how important a balanced diet is for our feline friends, and finding engaging, nutritious treats is a big part of that journey. One of the biggest nutritional highlights for cats, especially from muscle meats and organs like hearts, is Taurine. This essential amino acid isn't something cats can produce enough of on their own, making it a critical component of their diet for heart function, vision, and digestion. That's why I'm always keen to include natural sources of taurine, like heart meat, in their treats. While chicken hearts have been a long-time favorite for Eevee and Yoshi, I’ve been looking to introduce more variety and non-poultry options into their treat rotation to ensure they’re getting a broad spectrum of nutrients and to prevent any potential sensitivities from overexposure to one protein. Introducing new foods or treats to cats can be quite an adventure, as many of us cat parents know! Eevee, for example, can be a particularly discerning eater. I've tried beef heart in the past, and she wasn't interested at all. This experience taught me that patience and persistence are key. When trying a new freeze-dried raw heart treat, I usually start with a very small piece, sometimes mixing it with a treat they already love or making it part of a play session. The goal is to make it a positive experience, not a challenge. It's often a process of trial and error to find what truly excites them. This is where novel proteins like venison come in. Venison is an excellent option for cats, particularly those with sensitivities to more common proteins like chicken or beef. It's lean, rich in iron, and offers a different flavor profile that can be very appealing. The convenience of a freeze-dried raw heart treat means I can offer them a healthy, minimally processed snack that retains maximum nutritional value. It’s a fantastic way to ensure they get that vital taurine in a form that’s both palatable and easy to store. Finding a treat that both Eevee and Yoshi will enthusiastically devour is always a win in our household, and the search for that coveted "E&Y seal of approval" continues to be a fun and rewarding part of our daily routine. What new treats are your furry friends loving lately?
