For those who celebrated, I hope you had a day filled with joy & good company.
This year, I ordered my Eid clothes from The Saree Room. I was a bit skeptical about ordering because I was aware that many of their items were sold separately, rather than in a set. Usually, most Desi clothes are sold in a set.
This suit is probably my newest favorite set in my collection. I am obsessed with the color and shahrara style. However, I wasn’t too crazy about ordering the dupatta separately. On their website, the dupatta’s were being sold for over $50, so I decided to purchase one for $20 on Amazon instead. Fortunately, the one I ordered matched well!
I ordered this suit from their app, and it shipped on time. I appreciate that I didn’t have any issues with the shipment.
The quality of the suit was pretty good—I think it’s comparably to the suits I’ve purchased from traditional Desi shops 🫶🏾
... Read moreFollowing up on my initial thoughts about The Saree Room, I wanted to share a bit more detail about my experience, especially for anyone considering ordering their Eid outfits or other Desi wear online. It's always a bit nerve-wracking buying traditional clothes without trying them on, right?
One of the biggest takeaways for me was the common practice of selling pieces separately. As I mentioned, my beautiful sharara suit came as a two-piece, meaning the dupatta was sold separately. This isn't necessarily a bad thing, but it's crucial to be aware of when budgeting! The Saree Room’s dupattas were a bit pricey for my budget, which led me to find a perfectly matching one on Amazon for a fraction of the cost. My advice? Always double-check what’s included in the set description and don't be afraid to mix and match from other sources if you can find a better deal or a specific style you love. It actually offers more versatility!
Let's talk about the fit and quality. The images highlighted 'Pants fit well' which was a huge relief! Sometimes online, sharara pants can be tricky, either too short or too wide, but these were just right. However, the 'Top was slight tight' was a minor drawback. It wasn't unwearable, but for future purchases, I'd definitely consider sizing up or checking their size chart very carefully, perhaps even measuring myself if they provide detailed garment measurements. This is a common issue with ready-to-wear ethnic fashion, so always factor in potential alterations or a slightly larger size for comfort.
Compared to traditional Desi shops, I honestly found the quality of The Saree Room's suit to be quite competitive. The fabric felt good, and the stitching was neat. What I miss from traditional shops is the ability to feel the fabric and try things on instantly. But for the convenience of online shopping, especially during busy times like Eid preparations, The Saree Room delivered a decent product. The fact that it 'Shipped on time' was another big plus – nothing worse than scrambling for an Eid outfit last minute!
For anyone new to buying traditional Indian outfits online, here are a few tips I picked up:
Read product descriptions carefully: Pay attention to what's included (top, bottom, dupatta).
Check the size chart religiously: Don't assume your usual size. Measure yourself!
Look for reviews with photos: Seeing how the outfit looks on real people can be super helpful.
Factor in potential alterations: It's rare for an online purchase to fit perfectly off the rack.
Don't be afraid to accessorize from other places: Like my dupatta hack!
Overall, my 'Overall rating: 7/10' still stands. It was a good experience with a few minor quirks, mostly related to the standard challenges of online ethnic wear shopping. I'd consider ordering from The Saree Room again, keeping these considerations in mind. It's a great option for finding stylish #desifashion, especially if you're comfortable doing a little extra legwork for the perfect fit and complete look.
It's beautiful!
