... Read moreIf you've ever experienced achy knees on leg day, you're not alone. One key insight I've learned over the years through personal experience is that the discomfort often stems from muscles around the knee joint that haven't been properly activated before working out. Incorporating specific mobility drills can make a huge difference. Before I started including targeted warm-up exercises like side-lying hip abduction and standing tibialis raises, I often felt instability around my knees during squats or lunges. These drills help wake up and strengthen the hip abductors and the tibialis anterior, which play essential roles in supporting the knee and ankle. The side-lying hip abduction is particularly beneficial because it isolates the hip's side muscles without allowing momentum or swinging, ensuring true muscle activation. This helps stabilize the hip, which in turn supports the knee's alignment during movements. The standing tibialis raise focuses on the shin area muscle that steadies the ankle, providing a solid base for your knee to track correctly. Spending just 5 minutes on these mobility exercises before your leg day has noticeably improved my knee tracking under load, reducing discomfort and enhancing performance. This simple routine fits easily into any warm-up and sets the foundation for safer, more efficient leg workouts. For anyone struggling with knee pain or wanting to boost joint health and mobility, I highly recommend adopting these drills. Regular practice can lead to better joint resilience, prevent injury, and maintain healthy movement patterns over time. If you want a structured guide, commenting "BASICS" will get you a comprehensive Mobility Basics program that I've found extremely helpful in my training journey. Prioritizing joint warm-up and activation drills truly transforms leg day for the better.

why I train barefoot on leg days
I used to train in running shoes because that’s just what I thought you were supposed to wear. But I kept noticing my knees felt off, my hips felt wobbly, and I wasn’t feeling my glutes the way I wanted to. Once I switched to barefoot training (just socks or converse/vans), everything changed.
