Office procedures I set up

1. 🩺 Colposcopy

A colposcopy is a quick in-office procedure that allows your provider to take a closer look at your cervix using a special microscope called a colposcope. It’s usually done after an abnormal Pap test to check for any changes in cervical cells. Sometimes a small sample is taken for pathology.

2. ⚡ LEEP (Loop Electrosurgical Excision Procedure)

A LEEP uses a thin, heated wire loop to gently remove abnormal cervical tissue found after a colposcopy or Pap test. It’s performed under local anesthesia in the office and takes only a few minutes. LEEP helps prevent precancerous cells from turning into cervical cancer while preserving healthy tissue.

3. ✂️ Circumcision

A circumcision is a minor surgical procedure that removes the foreskin (the skin covering the tip of the penis). It’s often done for newborns, but can also be performed later in life for personal, cultural, or medical reasons. The procedure is quick, safe, and typically heals within a week.

... Read moreIn-office medical procedures like colposcopy, LEEP, and circumcision play a crucial role in early diagnosis and treatment, each designed to address specific health concerns effectively and safely. A colposcopy is primarily used for cervical health screening. When a Pap test indicates abnormal cervical cells, a colposcopy allows the healthcare provider to examine the cervix closely with a colposcope, a specialized microscope. This procedure helps identify changes or lesions that might not be visible otherwise. In some cases, a biopsy—removal of a small tissue sample—may be taken during the colposcopy for detailed pathological analysis. The LEEP procedure, or Loop Electrosurgical Excision Procedure, is an outpatient treatment used to remove abnormal cervical tissue detected during colposcopy or Pap smear follow-ups. This technique uses a thin, heated wire loop to excise the affected area precisely. By targeting and removing precancerous cells, LEEP effectively prevents progression to cervical cancer while conserving as much healthy tissue as possible. Local anesthesia is applied to ensure patient comfort, and the procedure typically lasts just a few minutes. Circumcision, although widely known as a newborn procedure, is also conducted for medical or personal reasons later in life. It involves the surgical removal of the foreskin, the protective skin covering the penile tip. The procedure is straightforward and usually heals quickly within a week. Circumcision can reduce the risk of infections and other penile conditions, making it a common minor surgical intervention. Setting up these procedures in an office environment requires proper equipment and adherence to safety protocols. For example, colposcopy requires a high-quality colposcope and sterile biopsy tools, while LEEP demands precise electrical settings to safely remove tissue without causing damage. Circumcision setups involve sterile surgical instruments and effective pain management techniques. Understanding these procedures helps medical assistants and patients alike appreciate their importance in preventive care and minor surgical interventions. If you are a medical professional or someone interested in learning more about these office-based procedures, staying informed on the latest guidelines and best practices can enhance patient outcomes and safety.
